The fight that everyone is talking about, Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Manny Pacquiao will be an afterthought by May 3rd. That’s because by May 2nd, we will all know who won the highly anticipated, fight between the unbeaten Mayweather and his #1 rival Pacquiao.
For those with the enough cash to pay tickets to actually watch the fight or those who will spend $100 to watch the fight from their home, to see history will cost you a pretty penny.
Unless you’re a resident of Mexico. The entire counrty will get the pleasure of watching the fight for the free! That’s right free.
The World Boxing Council tells TMZ Sports, two major Mexican TV networks have agreed to air the fight, Televisa and Azteca, so if you have a TV, you’re good to go.
The WBC says, “Televisa and Azteca must be recognized for their great commitment, for bringing to Mexico this bout for free. This has never, ever happened in any country of the world.”
FYI — Mexico also happens to be a major sponsor of the fight and the official beer of the bout is Tecate. Bottom line, Mexico is HEAVILY invested in the matchup despite the fact neither fighter is Mexican.
The fight will be held on May 2nd, which is the weekend just before May 5th. Cinco De Mayo is a major Mexican holiday and Floyd’s favorite weekend to fight.
Many were hoping for Mexican fighter Canelo Alvarez to fight Miguel Cotto on the May 2nd date but I’m sure they’re happy to see Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.
So no kids, it’s not entirely free. I’m sure there will be plenty of Tecates consumed in the counrty on fight night to reimburse the stations for picking up the tab.
