Later today, the New England Patriots will take on the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. During halftime, Katy Perry will join the likes of Janet Jackson, Brittney Spears and others who have performed during the Super Bowl halftime show.

Could you believe at one point, the NFL had no plans on making the halftime show such a big deal. That was until a little show called, In Living Color stole ratings from the game one year.

Back in 1992, the show took on the NFL and won. While most shows run reruns during the Super Bowl, Fox’s newest hit show had no problem taking on the sports giant. Running original sketches featuring some of their most popular characters, the show crushed the NFL in ratings during the time slot successfully drawing 22 million viewers. The shows success prompted the NFL to book more prominent pop music acts to compete.

In honor of today’s games, we celebrate In Living Color and the time they took down Goliath with two snaps
