Gunfire broke out at the Bringham and Women’s Hospital in Boston Tuesday morning.
One person was shot and a suspect was captured after gunfire broke out Tuesday morning at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on Tuesday morning.
The victim has life-threatening wounds, police said, while the suspect was arrested and a gun recovered. The shooting went down inside the Shapiro Building, the hospital’s cardiovascular center, at 70 Francis St., according to the hospital.
The person shot was a cardiac surgeon, a source told WBZ-TV. Other sources told WCVB-TV that the suspect is dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Chaos broke out news of the shooting spread, witnesses recounted.
“A security guard came in and said we need to evacuate the building immediately,” James Patelli told the CBS affiliate. “People started yelling ‘get down, get down.'”
Massachusetts State Police confirmed the agency assisted after the initial call, but the investigation is being lead by the Boston Police Department.
The condition of both the victim and suspect remains unclear. Boston police said the situation is “under control.” The hospital tweeted that, “All staff asked to remain in place.”
