NPR’s Alt.Latino made a big announcement this week. The Latino arm of NPR that examines Latino music, will be putting on a showcase this year in Austin during SXSW. The showcase will be called, SXAmericas.
The event will be a series of events geared to connect U.S. Latino and Latin American technology, music and film-industry thought leaders. They’ll also be hosting an intimate chat with French-Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux at the SXSW Convention Center in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, March 13.
Along with the announcement, they put together a great post about how Hip-Hop influenced Latin music forever.
Latin music blogger Juan Data, as well as a pioneer of Mexican hip-hop, rapper Bocafloja discussed how hip-hop trickled into Latin America, changing our music scene forever.
Read their post here and see some of the names they mention as those who put a hip-hop infusion into Latino music. One of the artists named was Mellow Man Ace. As a youth, I remember listening to Mellow Man Ace and seeing his video, “Mentirosa (Liar)” on the show Pump it Up.
