When you think Trader Joe’s the last thing you think of is expired food. The high end grocery store specializes is serving up products for their customers that are fresh. Their Ex-President has some new thoughts on how to sell food, especially food that might be past it’s expiration date.
The former president of Trader Joe’s, Doug Rauch is determined to repurpose the perfectly edible produce slightly past its sell-by date that ends up in the trash.
It’s a fact that One-third of the world’s food goes to waste every year. In the U.S., about 40 percent of our food gets thrown out. It’s happening on the farm, at the grocery store and in our own homes.
Rauch has an idea to re-sell food that goes un-used. He is opening a new market early next year in Dorchester, Mass., that will prepare and repackage the food at deeply discounted prices.
