If you don’t know about Big Freedia, then you’re about to in for a surprise! The transgender emcee from New Orleans went from being a local bounce star to an international ambassador of bounce music!
Bounce music comes from New Orleans. Think back to the early music of the Bug Tymers and the Hot Boys. Producer Mannie Fresh, all his work on those albums were rooted deep in the bounce music scene. T.I. most recently brought the sound back to the mainstream with his hit “Ball.”
But Big Freedia has hands down been holding down the bounce movement! Part of her live show are her dancers. Men and women, they both have the ability to twerk like their life depends on it! Freedia will attempt to break the twerk world record on September 25th.
According to Billboard, New Orleans bounce artist Big Freedia will attempt to booty pop his way into the Guinness book of world records with 250 other dancers.
The event is going down in Manhattan’s Herald Square on September 25, when the 250 dancers will twerk for two straight minutes. Fuse will be covering the event, which will promote their new show “Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce.”
Freedia has also been sending shots at Miley Cyrus and her hijacking of twerking.
“It’s become offensive to a lot of people who’ve been twerking and shaking their a**es for years, especially in black culture,” said Freedia. “When something gets hot, everybody want to jump on the bandwagon and act like they created it. That’s totally understandable, but they have to give credit where it’s due.”
