There’s has been a lot of drama hanging over the head of the Vatican and the Catholic church. Numerous Priest being arrested or leaving the church over child abuse allegations, combined with a divide in the church of social issues like gay marriage and contraception has led to a influx of longtime followers leave the church in droves.
The current Pope, Pope Francias has been outspoken about what needs to change if the church was to come back to prominence.
In an interview with 16 Jesuit publications, Pope Francias said “the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards” if it continues to focus on narrow issues such as abortion, gay marriage and contraception.
“I see clearly that the thing the church needs most today is the ability to heal wounds and to warm the hearts of the faithful,” he said in the 12,000-word interview that was also published in America magazine. It needs nearness, proximity.”
He went on to speak further about what the Catholic church needs to do to regain their popularity. Read his full interview here
